UFP Technologies (formerly known as United Packaging Corporation, United Packaging Corporation) was established in Woburn, Massachusetts by William H. Shaw, Robert W. Drew and Richard L. Bailly in 1963. In less than a year, the company expanded its operations and moved its factory headquarters to Georgetown, Massachusetts.

In 1967, the company changed its name to United Foam Plastics Corporation to reflect broader market capabilities.

In 2009, UFP Technologies acquired three companies: Advanced Materials Group, a foam manufacturer based in Rancho Dominguez, California; Foamade Industries Inc., a foam product and industrial machinery manufacturer ; And EN Murray, the company is a designer, processor and distributor of foam products, specializing in industrial polyurethane foam.

In January 2013, UFP Technologies acquired Packaging Alternatives Corporation, a full-service designer, converter and distributor of foam products, specializing in the production of polyurethane foam for medical use.

On February 2, 2018, UFP Technologies announced the acquisition of Dielectrics, Inc., headquartered in Chicopee, Massachusetts, which is a leader in the design, development, and manufacturing of medical devices using thermoplastic materials.

  • In September 2013, UFP Technologies spent approximately US$550,000 to build the sixth clean room, aiming to further expand into the medical device field.
  • In August 2014, UFP Technologies expanded its operations in Georgetown, Massachusetts, adding clean rooms and high-capacity equipment to support the production of parts made of medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane.
  • In November 2014, UFP Technologies expanded its North American operations in molded fiber packaging at a new location in El Paso, Texas.

  • In 2019, Dielectrics, a subsidiary of UFP Technologies, was one of 36 recipients of grants from the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Program (Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Program). The grant will be used to expand a skilled workforce and conduct operational excellence training in the production, engineering, R&D, quality, and maintenance fields of Chicopee, Massachusetts.
