Wonder City

On May 20, 2010, Metro announced in Shanghai that it will launch the consumer electronics retail store “Media Market” (Media Market) retail brand in mainland China, and plans to open its first store in Shanghai in October of that year. In order to ensure a competitive advantage in the already fiercely competitive Chinese mainland market, Metro has specifically sought out global foundry giant Foxconn as a partner. The two parties will jointly invest US$200 million to establish a joint venture company. It plans to have 10 stores in Shanghai in 2012, and then expand to the whole country. In 2015, the number of stores nationwide will be no less than 100. But by the middle of 2013, Meida-Markt of Wonder City will gradually close out of business and completely withdraw from China.

Metro Group and the founder family of Media Market’s parent company jointly hold 75% of the shares, while Foxconn Technology Group holds the remaining 25%.
